In August 2023, Primetals Technologies received an order from CSC for a decarbonization study, with a focus on reducing carbon emissions at the Kaohsiung site in Taiwan. The site has an annual crude steel production of around 10 million tons, making it the largest plant in Taiwan.

Reducing carbon emissions by 2030

Primetals Technologies will provide expert consulting, undertake a comprehensive study, and produce a detailed report that outlines recommendations for CSC’s decarbonization strategy. Parts of the study will take a closer look at possible operational enhancements for the BF/BOF route.

Given CSC’s commitment to prioritizing decarbonization, it is actively seeking solutions to curtail CO₂ emissions by an impressive 25 percent by 2030 and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Taiwan’s leading iron and steel company

CSC, situated in Kaohsiung, Taiwan was founded in December 1971. The company’s steel plant in Kaohsiung features four blast furnaces that collectively have a daily iron production capacity of around 24,000 tons. CSC’s main products are plates, bars, wire rods, hot- and cold-rolled coils, electrogalvanized coils, electrical steel coils, and hot-dip-galvanized coils. CSC supplies premium steel products to both domestic and international markets. Holding a remarkable market share of over 50 percent of the Taiwanese market, the company’s influence stretches beyond its borders as it exports products primarily to Southeast Asia, Europe, and Japan.
