On September 26, German steel producer thyssenkrupp Steel produced the first coil on its new 2-stand reversing cold mill, supplied by Primetals Technologies. A centerpiece in the steel giant’s future plans, the mill was inaugurated on October 30 during a festive event at the Bochum, Germany, plant. It is the world’s first 2-stand reversing cold mill featuring leading silicon steel technology Hyper UCM.

A few years ago, Chinese steel producer Xiangtan Iron and Steel started looking at solutions to improve its product quality. At the same time, the company wanted to modernize obsolete automation systems. Primetals Technologies presented a solution capable of addressing to both of these issues and was, as a result, awarded a contract for an extensive automation upgrade of Xiangtan’s plate mill located in Xiangtan, Hunan province.

In August 2023, Primetals Technologies received an order from CSC for a decarbonization study, with a focus on reducing carbon emissions at the Kaohsiung site in Taiwan. The study will focus on lowering CSC’s carbon footprint through operational improvements and technology-related changes at the Kaohsiung site in Taiwan

The Ukrainian government and Primetals Technologies have signed a letter of intent (LOI) for rebuilding the Ukrainian steel industry. The platform for recovering the steel industry in Ukraine brings together major players in the iron and steel sphere to support the reconstruction.

Primetals Technologies has developed and implemented a ground-breaking portable safety technology known as the Digital Optical Caliper. This system eliminates the dangerous practice of manually determining the product section using wood or traditional calipers. The Digital Optical Caliper can precisely measure a variety of long rolling product sections, thereby identifying potential issues during production and promoting safer work practices.
