Jindal United Steel Limited (JUSL), a part of Jindal Stainless, has awarded Primetals Technologies a contract for the comprehensive upgrade of its hot-strip mill at the Jajpur facility in Odisha, India. The project, scheduled for completion by December 2026, is intended to enhance both production capacity and product quality for plate manufacturing.

On April 1, 2025, Primetals Technologies, together with its strategic partner Mitsubishi Corporation, Rio Tinto, a leading mining and materials company, and globally leading steel and technology group voestalpine, signed a cooperation agreement to fast-track the development of fluidized bed and smelter technologies with the HYFOR and Smelter solutions from Primetals Technologies.

voestalpine Donawitz has started up its LD converter (BOF) No. 4 following a revamp carried out by Primetals Technologies. A new air-cooling system has significantly reduced the operating temperature of the trunnion ring and converter shell, resulting in longer equipment lifetime.

The newly installed equipment includes a 150-ton argon-oxygen decarburization (AOD) converter, a 150-ton ladle furnace, a single-strand continuous caster, and comprehensive automation solutions. With this expansion, JSL’s production capacity will increase by approximately 1 million tons per year. Advanced automation systems contribute to improved product quality and optimized process efficiency.
