Final acceptance awarded for copper rod mill supplied to Southwire for China’s largest copper producer
To expand its production capacity, Jiangxi Copper Company contracted with Southwire Company, LLC, of Carrollton, Georgia, USA, for an SCR 9000 copper rod mill including shearing, rolling, and coiling equipment supplied by Primetals Technologies. This is the first mill to achieve 54 metric tons per hour, the highest capacity system ever supplied by Southwire, which was installed in the Guangdong Province of China.

Primetals Technologies sells three high-speed wire rod mills to Chinese customer
To consolidate its market position by upgrading its existing production capacity, a customer in the People’s Republic of China has signed a contract with Primetals Technologies for three high-speed wire rod mills in the northern region. The new mills improved thermo-mechanical rolling capabilities will complement additional mills moving into the company’s main production base. Start-up is expected in mid- to late 2020.

Primetals Technologies wins order from Shougang Qian’an to supply 6-stand Hyper UC-mill for electrical steel
In late January, Primetals Technologies received the order to supply a 6-stand tandem cold mill (TCM) for a new plant of Shougang Qian’an Electric Vehicle Electrical Steel Co., Ltd. (Shougang Qian’an) in Qian’an City, Hebei Province, China. The TCM is designed as a Hyper Universal Crown Control Mill (Hyper UC-mill). Hyper UC-mills employ smaller diameter work rolls, thus reducing rolling loads. This allows for the production of harder and thinner materials with improved product quality.

Primetals Technologies sells steel rod mill to HBIS Shijiazhuang Iron & Steel Co. Ltd.
To comply with environmental regulations and improve production, HBIS Shijiazhuang Iron & Steel Co. Ltd. has signed a contract with Primetals Technologies for a new steel rod mill in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province, People’s Republic of China. The plant, which is being relocated from within Shijiazhuang City limits because of environmental protection rules, will feature high-capacity Morgan Reducing Sizing Mill (RSM) technology for thermo-mechanical rolling of larger diameter products. Start-up is expected in late 2020.

For blast furnace operators, Primetals Technologies now offers a new type of wear-resistant copper stave. Superior burden material retention between innovative, pocket-type hexagonal inserts offers prolonged campaign lifetime by significantly reducing wear and consequential, unplanned maintenance. The staves also incorporate the patented and well-proven bend-resistant technology from Primetals Technologies. Standard as well as retro-fit solutions for new furnaces and furnace relines are available, with minimal installation and downtime requirements.
