    Primetals Technologies receives final acceptance for ERT-EBROS billet welding system at Ferriera Valsabbia

    In late December 2020, Italian steel producer Ferriera Valsabbia S.p.A. issued the Final Acceptance Certificate (FAC) to Primetals Technologies for the supply ERT-EBROS of endless rolling technology for the company's existing bar rolling mill in Odolo, Brescia province. The aim was to boost plant output and utilization levels. The system welds together billets intended for rolling, thus enabling a continuous rolling process with a consistently high product quality. The new ERT-EBROS plant is the first system of its kind installed in Italy.

    Primetals Technologies to introduce new light-duty Hyper UC-mill designed for thinner building materials at SUNSCO in Vietnam

    Vietnamese steel producer Maruichi Sun Steel Joint Stock Company (SUNSCO) is in a deal with Primetals Technologies to introduce light-duty Hyper Universal Crown-mill (Hyper UC-mill) at a SUNSCO production site in Binh Duong Province in Vietnam. This mill will be installed as its first application in Vietnam. It is a compact, light duty type of Hyper UC-mill, a RCM, employing smaller diameter work rolls, thus reducing rolling loads. It allows the production of thinner materials of high quality at fewer costs. Also, the mill concept saves investment and maintenance costs.

    Primetals Technologies modernizes a rolling mill at Acciaierie Venete in Mura, Italy

    Primetals Technologies has been contracted by Acciaierie Venete S.p.A. for the modernization of the finishing train of the rolling mill installed in Mura (BS), Italy. The project comprises the replacement of eight existing housing-type rolling stands with modern housing-less type Red Ring Series 5 units, which are lighter and more conveniently movable from the rolling line to the workshop and vice versa. The new Red Ring stands will allow significantly shorter change times, and will make the maintenance operations easier and quicker. The series 5 of the Red Ring stands offers a prolonged lifetime of wear components. Existing rolling rolls and guiding equipment will be reutilized.

    Primetals Technologies upgrades Arvedi ESP line at Acciaieria Arvedi in Cremona, Italy to increase capacity

    In September, the Arvedi ESP (Endless Strip Production) line at Acciaieria Arvedi in Cremona, Italy was restarted after a major upgrade. The modernization, performed by Primetals Technologies, included changes to the continuous casting machine, resulting in an increase of mass flow, and, consequently production capacity. The upgrade is the first step to raise the overall production capacity of the ESP line to 3 million metric tons per year. The measures undertaken will also improve product quality. All modernization work was carried out during planned shutdowns in December 2019 and August 2020, with the ESP line starting up 3 days ahead of schedule. In the first month of operation after re-starting, production exceeded previous levels.

    Tosyali orders EAF Quantum electric arc furnace, secondary metallurgy and continuous slab caster from Primetals Technologies

    Turkish steel producer Tosyali Demir Celik Sanayi A.S. has placed an order with Primetals Technologies to supply an EAF Quantum electric arc furnace, a twin vacuum-degassing plant with oxygen blowing and a two-strand slab caster for a flat steel greenfield project in Iskenderun, Turkey. The EAF Quantum is designed to handle metallic scrap and virgin materials such as HBI, pig iron in different composition and quality. The twin vacuum-degassing plant provides further treatment and steel quality to the production portfolio of Tosyali Demir Celik. Two-strand continuous slab caster provides a capacity of two million metric tons of slabs per year, to be increased to 3.4 million tons, and is able to process a wide range of steel grades.
