EFRS International Iron & Steel Symposium – Izmir, Türkiye

More than 2,000 visitors were drawn to the EFRS 2024 in Izmir, Türkiye, organized by METEM. In the 2-day symposium that was held with the theme “Sustainable Steel; To Strong Future”, participants presented 32 oral presentations and 54 poster presentations. Additionally, 56 companies were present with booths.
We want to thank the organizer, the participants and the visitors for many insightful discussions, fruitful meetings and in general, the interest in green steel solutions for the Turkish Steel industry.

After four long years, Primetals Technologies returned to Düsseldorf at METEC 2023 and the 6th ESTAD. At METEC 2023, the focus remained on four key topics: Green Steel, Automation and Digital Plants, Asset Optimization, and Strategic Development. At METEC, visitors could experience our technologies in a unique 3D Showroom, get hands-on with experts in the Orange Lab, featuring the Central Operations Cockpit, and hear discussions with industry leaders and experts at the Green Lounge. This thrilling event brought together over 7000 attendees who were eager to witness multiple technical presentations presented by Primetals Technologies. The exhibits at the Primetals Technologies booth featured cutting-edge technologies such as TPQC and ALEX for quality control and automation, m.space and MAT for optimized material tracking, and the Digital Caliper for precise measurements. However, the highlight of the event was the Arvedi ESP 3-D printed model and simulator, providing an immersive experience of this revolutionary process.

International Iron Ore Conference 2023 – Stockholm, Sweden

The event took place in Stockholm and has brought together iron ore miners, pellet producers, consumers, as well as trading companies to discuss the greening of the steel industry and meet prospective customers. Digital Transformation Forum for the Steel Industry 2023 – Pittsburgh, U.S.A.
March 7–8, 2023
Organized by the Digitalization Applications Technology Committee of the Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST), this conference attracted more than 130 experts to discuss the steel industry’s digital transformation journey. Anil Kanagala served as a Session Chair and represented our company during the Expert Panel Discussion. The panel addressed the current state of technology underlying the digital transformation of the steel industry as well as the digital transformations governance and organizational change management. The panelists also emphasized that the future includes OEMs playing an important role as the steel industry evolves in a more digital direction.

Around 230 delegates from the Iron & Steel Industry, relevant academic institutes and R&D lab participated in the conference that was organized by Tata Steel in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Metals - Jamshedpur Chapter, and the Pellet Manufacturers Association of India. Several theses were presented on Sintering and Pelletizing during the 2 days of the event, among them our paper on “Enhanced Sinter raw mix and Product control combined with solid fuel and Emission Freight reduction”.

More than 900 visitors attended the annual Middle East Iron & Steel (MEIS) Conference 2022 in Dubai. MEIS is the largest annual meeting of the iron and steel industry in the MENA region. With three days of unbeatable content – delivered by senior and respected regional executives – covering raw materials dynamics, iron and steel production fundamentals, and consumption drivers in the Middle East and North African countries. Technology Day on Green Steel – Jamshedpur, India

Over 40 delegates including Senior Management participated in the day-long session. The morning was all about the global situation, trends, pathways and roadblocks for the Green Steel transformation. Around 120 delegates from Iron & Steel Industry, relevant academic institutes, and labs participated in the seminar to exchange their view on the focus topic of the event Sustainable Technology for Indian Steel Industry & Sourcing of Steel Plant Equipment in India. Aluminium 2022 – Duesseldorf, Germany
September 27-29, 2022
After a four-year break, we returned to Duesseldorf and the World’s leading Aluminum trade fair Aluminium 2022. Despite some travel restrictions still being in place the show exceeded many expectations and was exceptionally well attended with over 20,000 trade visitors from 100 nations. The demonstration rig of the Air Bearing ShapeMeter (ABSM) connected to a Primetals Technologies Technical Control System (TCS), as well as the presentation of the full-scale Edgewipe display unit were very popular attractions and talking points for visitors. The event was a great opportunity to once again meeting customers face-to-face. It was a pleasure to participate and we are looking forward to returning in 2024.
Stainless & Special Steel Conference – Hamburg, Germany

More than 300 visitors came together in Hamburg to discuss the burning topic of the industry: More sustainable steel. Emerging questions like how to decrease energy consumption with short term measures, how to reduce CO2 emissions with the right scrap composition for EAF premelts, and the recycling of by-products attracted many participants to the panel discussion as well as to the presentation held by Bernhard Voraberger, Head of Technology Steelmaking.

8th ECIC & ICSTI – Bremen, Germany

For the first time, the 8th European Coke and Ironmaking Congress (ECIC) and the 9th International Conference on Science and Technology of Ironmaking (ICSTI) took place together in Bremen, Germany. While highlighting the latest technologies in cokemaking, sintering, pelletizing, and ironmaking, a clear focus on the future of the blast furnace and a transition toward direct reduction emerged with with an emphasis on eco-friendly production in many of the 114 talks. Presentations from Primetals Technologies included a keynote speech from Dr. Alexander Fleischanderl and papers from 7 other experts, covering the hot topics related to ironmaking.

ABM Week 6 edition – São Paulo, Brazil

After a two-year break, we returned to Latin America’s largest technical and scientific event in the fields of metallurgy, materials, and mining. Our experts engaged in discussions after they held their technical presentations e. g. about product quality at continuous casting using XXL bearing units or a best practice example of equipment and process innovations already incorporated into the new mill design of our Chinese customer YongXing Special Stainless Steel Co. Ltd. Additionally, our innovators Franz Kolmbauer and Bojan Jozic exchanged knowledge and opinions at the round tables.

More than 300 leaders from across the steel industry participated in the event that features keynote speeches and panel discussions about topics including global steel markets, trade, and raw materials pricing. Like last year, the major theme centered on the efforts of steel producers to transition to zero-carbon production. Primetals Technologies’ Joerg Buttler, Senior Director – Mechanical Business – Upstream US, participated in one of the 2 panels about decarbonization. In a speech titled “Decarbonizing Strategies for the Steel Industry to Meet Net-zero by Mid-century,” Mr. Buttler reviewed steel producer CO2 reduction targets as well as the main considerations for reducing carbon emissions.

Over 1.800 participants visited the 8th International Iron and Steel Symposium where 4 panel discussions, 7 interactive sessions, 26 oral presentations and 69 poster presentations engaged the visitors to step into conversation. In keeping with the event’s motto “New Horizons”, the main focus was on Green Steel and Digitalization. In the Panel Discussion “Zero Carbon”, where Dr. Alexander Fleischanderl participated, but also in the presentations from Deniz Çatan and Dieter Bettinger, it could be seen that the participation and the degree of people participating from the integrated iron- and steelworks increased significantly compared to previous EFRS symposiums. We want to quote one of our customers when thanking the host for making this great event possible: It was “just awesome”.

AISTech 2022 returned to Pittsburgh more successful than ever. This year 8.068 visitors attended the fair to get to know more about the header topics Decarbonization and Digitalization. At the Primetals Technologies booth, which measured 100ft2, experts from all over the world exchanged knowledge and informed themselves about the latest technology trends such as low-carbon steel production, advanced process optimization, and the digitalization of all production-related processes. Thank you for coming to our booth and enriching this fair with great conversations. We would also like to thank the audience of our 16 presentations, who showed great interest in the different sessions, and the host, the AIST, for enabling to bring back this great event.

More than 110 steel experts from Canada to India attended this live-streamed expert interview on LinkedIn. Heiner Guschall, CEO of SICON Germany, and Andreas Melcher, Scrap Yard Automation Expert at Primetals Technologies, shared insights how “crafted scrap” enables the production of high-quality steel and reduces CO2 emissions, how “conventional scrap” can be converted into “crafted scrap”, and how essential the automation of production and logistics processes is in a steel factory. The moderator Christoph Stangl, Marketing Manager EA at Primetals Technologies, handed over questions from the participants to the two speakers. We would like to thank all participants for their interest and their ambitious engagement. This was by far the most successful live-streamed PIONEERS TALK so far – and more will come.
