Turkish metals producer Ege Çelìk to upgrade wire rod mill with Primetals Technologies
Metals producer Ege Çelìk Endüstrisi Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. has contracted with Primetals Technologies for upgrades to its wire rod mill in İzmir, Turkey. The addition of a new wire rod outlet will expand its valueadded product range for markets in Turkey and Europe, with greater capability for surface finish quality and dimensional tolerance in its wire rod products. Thermomechanical rolling will improve drawability while reducing overall heat treatment costs. Commissioning for the new wire rod outlet is expected in summer 2023.

MMK Best Suppliers Awards: Primetals Technologies honored as the “Leader of Environmental Solutions in Metallurgy"
Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) held its sixth annual best supplier competition and recognized its most reliable supply chain partners. MMK's management places great value in this competition since relations with suppliers are one of the key factors for successful future development. An honorary diploma in the category "Leader of Environmental Solutions in Metallurgy" was awarded to Primetals Technologies, for supplying a secondary dedusting system for the BOF melt shop. The award was presented during a gala event, where Pavel Shilyaev, MMK CEO, thanked the winners for their cooperation. Primetals Technologies is proud to be honored as one of the selected suppliers. Wilhelm Fingerhut, Vice President Environmental Solutions, received the prize: “We would like to thank the MMK management and the project team for their excellent cooperation and this gesture of appreciation inspires and motivates us further. We will continue to complete projects together and ensure that we live up to this award.”

JSW Steel orders converter melt shop and continuous casters for new steel melt shop from Primetals Technologies
Indian steelmaker JSW Vijayanagar Metallics Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Steel Ltd (JSW Steel), has placed an order with Primetals Technologies to supply equipment for its new Steel Melt Shop No. 4 in Vijayanagar, Toranagallu. The order includes two BOF(LD)-converters, two ladle furnaces, gas cleaning and dedusting systems, two slab casters as well as level 1 and level 2 automation systems. The new melt shop has a design capacity of 5 million metric tons per year and will mainly produce high-quality carbon steel. It is part of a major project of JSW Steel to expand its JSW Steel Vijayanagar Works facility’s production capacity. Primetals Technologies will be responsible for engineering, supply of equipment, and advisory services for erection and commissioning.

EVRAZ ZSMK awards contract for integrated quality control system for rail production to Primetals Technologies
In October 2021, EVRAZ Consolidated West Siberian Metallurgical Plant (EVRAZ ZSMK) awarded a contract to Primetals Technologies for an integrated quality control system for its steel mill and rolling mill in Novokuznetsk, Russia. The solution "Through-Process Optimization (TPO)" will improve the quality of rail manufacturing at Russia's largest steel company. Production data are stored centrally, continuously and in a structured way. Immediately after installation of the solution, experts from Primetals Technologies will perform data-driven correlation analyses. The project will take 16 months to implement and will be monitored by a steering committee comprising the management of EVRAZ ZSMK and Primetals Technologies in Austria. The contract also includes a multi-year service contract.

Start-up of two continuous slab casters modernized by Primetals Technologies at Angang Iron & Steel
Recently, two continuous slab casters modernized by Primetals Technologies commenced operation at Chinese steel producer Angang Iron & Steel Group Co. (Angang) in its steelworks No. 2 in Anshan. The objectives of the project were to further improve slab quality by implementing DynaGap soft reduction and to increase the caster´s availability. To these ends, state-of-the art automation features and technological packages were installed. Despite current quarantine challenges for the project team, CCM5 was started 7 days ahead of schedule and CCM4 went in operation 16 days earlier than planned.
